TADLOP NEWSLETTER No 5

Dear All

I am sure many of you are now aware of the passing of David Leask.  It has been a great shock to us all and we send our condolences to Margaret and the family.  David was a much-loved member of the society and a dear friend to many.  He will be greatly missed.  On stage he always gave an accomplished performance. His first major role in TADLOP was ‘Pilate’ in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ and more recently as ‘Scrooge’ and only this year as Isador Strauss in ‘Titanic’.  He should be an example to us all.  Our concert is to be dedicated to him and a donation to cancer research will be made.

We are rapidly approaching the concert and it does sound very good!  Thanks to all of you who have stuck with it.  These concerts do give a good focus on improving our singing so they are well worth doing, in addition to hopefully providing the society with some extra funds.  I realize they are not everyone’s cup of tea, so to speak, but look forward to seeing everyone when we start The Scarlet Pimpernel - first rehearsal is on Sunday 2nd September at Hadley 7.30 - please make every effort to attend.

Back to the concert! We do need people to wait on tables and generally assist.  If you can help, please call me or anyone on the committee.  There is a BAR, but please, no getting smashed before we sing! Concert dates are 17th and 18th August at the Maws Craft Centre.  Tickets are available from Jo Matkin on 01952 885999.

I hope you are all aware that we are having a brief rehearsal on the 16th at the Maws. It is only brief to get an idea of how it’s going to sound outside and to tidy up movements etc.

Some good news - Mary Law has been poorly recently but is now much better and I’m sure we all wish her well and look forward to seeing her soon.

After many years of service (16 I think!) John Brown has had to take the decision to retire. We will miss him greatly but he has offered to give his advice and support.  I have had some great fun over the years working with John and the lads backstage.  Loads of stories to tell but too many for a newsletter (or which could go into print!)  Thanks and all the best, John.

Which brings me to the next point. We need a Stage manager!  If you are out there and are interested please get in touch to find out what it is all about.  If you are interested in other positions in direction or MD, do come forward and let people know!

Finally we have a range of social events coming up (see enclosed save the date info).  One of the events being organized is a big day out in London - Christmas shopping during the day and a show (Wicked) in the evening.  There are 50 places available and it costs £65.  If you are interested, please get a cheque addressed to TADLOP to Annika before the 2nd September 2007 – but do hurry it’s a 1st come 1st served basis.  For more details, contact Annika on 07837 583261 or dixonannika@aol.com or come to rehearsal & look at the fab. poster on the notice board!
