In memory of the late Eve Cooper

A Concert for Eve:
Eve was a founder member of TADLOP right back at the beginning, in the very
first Production Calamity
Jane in 1972. Shropshire had never seen such shows and to go to the
West End was just a dream, so it was decided to bring some of the West End to
the people of Shropshire. The theatre was packed with coaches travelling in from
far and wide to see the Operatic Players. In 1973 Eve played Aunt Ella in
Oklahoma something
that she was to become familiar with as she performed it again in
1983 and
1993. She played Anna
in the King & I, Julie Jordan in Carousel and had amazing reviews when she
played Bloody Mary in South
Pacific in 1985. Eve was always encouraging new members to join and
when she wasn't performing could be found directing, working on the committee,
being President and doing the publicity. The last programme for Eve was
Titanic — The Musical
which won an award from NODA. Eve was always 100% TADLOP for music and
occasionally went to the
Belfrey Theatre to perform some plays. Eve also
sang in concert with famous singers such as Edmund Hockridge and John Heddle
Nash. The Eve Cooper award is now presented each year to the person who has
provided an outstanding service to amateur theatre for TADLOP — This year's
award goes to
Nigel Whyles for all his hard work and dedication to the society.
